Sister Roberta McKinnon – obituary

Sister Roberta McKinnon passed away on Feb. 14, 2014 at the age of 92 at the St. Francis Convent in Tiffin, Ohio, where she had spent the last 16 years.  As a member of the St. Francis Order, she had dedicated her life to ministries of many kinds which she pursued to the end.

sister RobertHer early academic career includes her Masters of Music Education from the University of Notre Dame, Southbend, Indiana. As teacher and organist, she taught religious education and social services in various elementary schools in Ohio; at St Francis Convent High School in Tiffin, OH; and at Cherokee Public School. She taught music education for extension courses for various colleges, and served for 10 years in the Diocese of Toledo as the supervisor the diocesan schools.

In 1973, she became the Pastoral Associate at Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church on the Qualla Boundary where she was involved in all levels of pastoral presence in Cherokee and Bryson City.  Together with a fellow sister companion, they began an era steeped in outreach ministry and community involvement that would extend over 25 years.

There was no limit to Sister Roberta’s diverse involvement in religious, cultural, governmental and social aspects of life in the Cherokee Community.  She took part in interfaith studies with local ministers and ecumenical gatherings which promoted cooperation among denominations.  Her broad education and musical talents enabled her to fill needs in schools for children and adults.  Hispanic ministry Outreach and tutoring were also important issues.  She initiated various social programs and served on numerous boards.  Spiritual lives were enriched by incorporating Native American rituals into Mass and Prayer Services at Our Lady of Guadalupe.  In turn, her love and dedication for the people has been rewarded by the acceptance, respect and confidence the Cherokees showed her. Her Legacy remained with all people who had become good friends and experienced her counseling and love.

In 1992. Sr. Roberta received the Peace Maker Award given by the Third Order Franciscan Federation.

After she returned to the motherhouse in 1998, in her semi-retirement, she continued to be active by active by teaching English to Mexican immigrants, serving as the director of the Wholistic Eldering Project in Tiffin, and serving the community as a minister of prayer.

On Feb. 18, Sr. Roberta’s Funeral Mass and Burial took place on the St. Francis Convent grounds in Tiffin, OH. She has lived her Faith.

Howard McMillan – obituary

Howard McMillan, 57, originally of the Hyatt Creek community went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 in a Cherokee health care facility. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Clifford and Mary Brady McMillan. He was preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Brady and his wife Januita and their infant daughter, Judy; and his great niece, Kali Cochran.

He is survived by his siblings, Jerome Brady, Hermon McMillan, Wayne McMillan, Leola McMillan, Larry McMillan, Earl and Tommy McMillan, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

Kenneth “Kenny” Cuthbertson

cuthbertson, kenneth (media)Kenneth “Kenny” Cuthbertson, 76, of Morganton and Bryson City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014.  Born in Burke County on June 7, 1937, he was the son of the late Wilson Edgar Cuthbertson and Ruby Irene Mull Cuthbertson.  Kenny was a life-long member of Glen Alpine First Baptist Church.  He owned and operated Western NC Fur Company, several gift stores in Cherokee, and the Cherokee Inn.  He was an avid golfer, was a fan of UNC, enjoyed getting together with his family, and loved his dog, Baby.

Kenny is survived by the love of his life, Blanche Orders Cuthbertson; sons, Craig K. Cuthbertson and his wife, Catherine, of Bryson City and Brad W. Cuthbertson of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Dustin and Dillion Cuthbertson; sisters, Lenada Williams of Bostic, Margaret Curtis of Greensboro, and Winn Fernandes of Plymouth, Mass.; nephews and nieces, Kim W. Hollifield, Brooke C. Urmann, Stephen Curtis, Jake Fernandes, and Andrew Fernandes; and his step-mother, Sadie Cuthbertson of Plymouth, Mass.

The funeral will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Dennis Maples officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2pm prior to the service.

Emily Timmons Russell – obituary

Emily Timmons Russell was born Feb. 27, 1920 in Canton, of the family of George Hasque and Rhetta Morgan Timmons. She died Feb. 19, 2014 in Waynesville.
Emily was married to Joseph Turner Russell Jr. on July 17, 1938. They had four children, six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The survivors are:
Joseph Turner Russell III of Ashville with wife Rosemary -two children and two grandchildren; the Rev. George David Russell and Carolyn in Waynesville, four children and fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren;
and Rebekah Lynn Russell in Waynesville.

The husband, Joseph Turner, and daughter, Teresa Lea, are deceased.

In the business world, she held several positions from Postal Clerk to Executive Secretary before she started her own business, The Telephone Answering Service in Haywood from which she retired.

She was very active in church, which was the Presbyterian Church U.S. and then the PCA Presbyterian Church. She taught Bible in both with youth groups and Sunday School. She served in the office of President on local, district and Presbyterial levels.

She was active on the Presbyterial level to bring the churches into the new PCA. She was one of three to bring the local church into PCA which is Covenant PCA.

She was an active member of the Leadership of America organization, chaired by Martha Roundtree and based in Washington, DC.

She was an active member of Back to God movement and took many trips to Washington, DC and Raleigh to meet Congressmen and legislators on the issue of Prayer in Schools, School books, against Women’s liberation and other issues.   On the county and local levels, she served several times as President of: Democratic Women of Haywood, American Legion Activity and Alpha Master chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi and one time to National Association of General Employees.
She served three years on the Women’s Advisory Committee of the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church in America- a national committee.  She was recognized publically on four occasions and given awards for her work as twenty years on the Presbyterial level of both churches.

First and foremost, Emily Russell loved the Lord passionately and worked to bring her family to know and love the Lord. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Waynesville.

Kassie L. (Wolfe) Driver – obituary

Mrs. Kassie L. (Wolfe) Driver, 33, of Cherokee, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 25, 2014 in her home of 495 Tooni Branch Road.

Kassie is the daughter of the late Larry Armachain, Sr. and surviving mother Pearl Wolfe of Cherokee.  She was the loving wife of Henry Driver.

Kassie is also survived by her children, daughters, Kaslyn Driver and Issabella Driver; son, Henry Driver Jr.; brothers, Larry Armachain Jr. and Keith “Lil Wolfe” Armachain and sister, Larissa Armachain.

Kassie is preceded in death by her grandmother, Irene Wolfe; father-in-law, John H. Driver and aunt, Adonna Wolfe.

A visitation is planned on being held at the Big Cove Pentecostal Holiness church at 7710 Big Cove Rd., starting at 4pm on Friday, Feb. 28.  Kassie will remain at the church till the hour of service at 2pm on Saturday, March 1. Pastor Doris McMillian will officiate the service and the Pall Bearers will be among the family and friends.  Kassie will be immediately buried in the Wolfe Family Cemetery in the Big Cove community.

The family of Lucinda Lambert Sampson would like to express sincere appreciation to all friends and relatives who stopped by to be with us; offered prayers, comforting words and sang during Lucinda’s illness and passing.  We thank Dr. Granning and the staff at Tsali Care Center for taking good care of Lucinda and accommodating the family during her final days with special thanks to Kim, Jenny and Emily.  Thank you to Rock Springs Baptist Church and Yellowhill Church for the beautiful singing. Your voices were certainly comforting to everyone and eased Lucinda’s passing.  We thank preachers Bo Parris and Patricia Crockett for their comforting message from the word of God.  Wolftown Free Labor and Cherokee Wesleyan Church members, your selfless work speaks straight from Philippians 2:4 and we are grateful. To those who brought food,  (especially cousin Marie Junaluska); and sent cards and flowers thank you so very much.  Last but not least, we thank the Long House Funeral home for assisting with the service.  May God bless you all!

Nick “Shorty” Bradley Jr. – obituary

Nick “Shorty” Bradley Jr., 78, of the Wolftown Community passed away on Feb. 12, 2014 at his residence. Shorty is the son of the late Nick Bradley Sr. and Edith Hart Bradley. Shorty was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee. He is a veteran of the Army serving from 1953-1956.  He worked at the Cherokee Boys Club and retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs Road Division. Shorty was a fan of the UNC Tarheels and Dale Earnhardt (NASCAR) and also enjoyed bear hunting, fishing and camping. 

Along with his parents, Shorty is preceded in death by brothers, John, Jarrett, Joe and Russell Bradley; one sister, Betty Crowe; daughter, Janet Lee Bradley and grandson Chester Ray Sequoyah.

Shorty is survived by his wife of 57 years Wanda Lee Smith Bradley; children, Frankie Bradley, Dean Bradley and wife Terri, Pebbles Blankenship and husband Jerry, Bobby Bradley and Mary Cagle, Victoria Bradley and Brian Waldroup; brothers, Red and Hammond Bradley; sister, Clara Jean Huskey. Shorty also leaves behind five grandchildren, all of Cherokee, and three great-grandchildren, two of Cherokee and one of Tennessee as well as many loving friends.

A visitation was held on Feb. 14 at Long House Funeral Home.  The funeral service was also held there with Military Honors. Burial followed at John Bradley Cemetery, and pallbearers included: Chris Blankenship, Jeremy Blankenship, Matt Smith, Charles Bryson, Aaron Williams and James Raby. Mr. Ray Kinsland officiated.

Glenn Buford Rogers – obituary

rogers-glennGlenn Buford Rogers, 75, of Marble passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014. Glenn was born Sept. 22, 1938 in Marble.

He served in the United States Navy from 1955-57.

Glenn attended Fruitland Bible Institute to obtain an associate degree in Ministry. The following churches in which he ministered over the last 50 years were: Maltby Baptist in Marble, Shady Grove Baptist in Hayesville, Sycamore Baptist in Gretna, Va., Carrs Hill Baptist in Brevard, Woodland Baptist in Clyde, and Friendship Baptist in Suit. He retired from the ministry in 2004. He also served as an associate chaplain at MissionHospital between the years of 1982 and 1993.

He was a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Marble Springs Baptist Church and served as deacon.

Glenn loved his family and ministered to other people in their time of need and was a friend to all people.

He was the son of the late Homer Astor “Doc” and Lucy Queen Rogers. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Leuna Adams, Margaret Rogers, and Margie Creason; and three brothers, Homer, Kyle, and Kenneth “Buck” Rogers.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Alta Brown Rogers; two daughters, LaRue R. Neilson and husband, Joel of Candler, and Glenda Rogers Sigmon and husband, Jeff of Claremont; two sisters, Joyce McColley and Doris Adams; a brother, Jimmy Rogers; and a number of grandchildren who brought great joy to his life, Chelsea Beaver, Jacob Neilson, Keaton Neilson, Hailey Heatwole, Nathanael Sigmon, Carson Sigmon, and Hayes Heatwole.

A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, March 5 at Marble Springs Baptist Church with the Drs. Keith Parker and John Bailey officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2-3:45 Wednesday afternoon at the MarbleSpringsBaptistChurch prior to the services.

Johnathon “JD” Davis, 26, of Cherokee, went home to be the Lord on Feb. 28, 2014.  John is the son of Nunnie Davis and wife Susan and the late Mildred “Millie” Smith.

John is survived by his wife Crystal Davis and daughter, Chotky Ruth Davis; brothers, Corey Davis and wife Michelle, Curtis Betz and Justin Davis; sister, Kayla “Sis” Betz; grandparents, Ferman and Melinda Smith; uncles, Jack Davis and wife Carmen, Dude, Jimmy, Steve, Wesley and Tom; aunts, Jean Sneed, Shirley Laws, Sarah B, Nita Ann, Alexis, Annie, Norma, Heather and Tracy; cousins: Boo-Boo Davis, Joe, Rob, Jake, Kim, Jeff, Cassie, Hannah, Michael and Cole.

John is preceded in death by his step daughter, Justice Rain Bark; grandmothers, Ruth “Mawie” Davis, Elise “Maw” Rowland and Frances Littlejohn; grandfather, John “Hoppy” Davis.

The funeral service will start at 2pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Rock Springs Baptist Church, and a burial will follow at the Towstring Cemetery. Pall Bearers include: Drew Grant, Scrappy Sherrill, Donald Jackson, Brian Thompson, Ryan “Slaw” Sampson, Evan McCoy and Wesley Smith. Pastor Greg Morgan will officiate.

Katie Jessan – obituary

Katie Jessan, 93, of the Yellowhill Community, went home to be with her family in Heaven, Tuesday March 3, 2014 in Cherokee Indian Hospital. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Ossie and Martha Crowe.  She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Dinah French, Stacy Tute, Louisa Barnes, and Sallie Crowe; two brothers, Guy and John D. Crowe; and three sons, Mike, Denny, and Ossie Crowe.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Rich, and Martha Sherrill; 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 20 great-great grandchildren.

She was a member and Sunday school teacher at the Yellowhill Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and a sister to the NAIWA. She also helped with words for the Cherokee Language.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Friday, March 7 at the Yellowhill Baptist Church. Rev. Red Bradley, Rev. Furman Bradley, and Ray Kinsland will officiate with the burial in the Crowe Family Cemetery.

The body will be taken to the church at 4pm on Thursday to await the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Carrie Sneed Robinson, 105, of Cherokee passed away peacefully on March 6, 2014 at the Tsali Care Center.  The eldest of 10 children, Carrie was born on July 18, 1908 to Cam and Minda Bradley Sneed. Carrie retired as a Dietician at the Cherokee Indian Hospital, before that job, she had worked at the Soco Day School and owned a small gas station and cottages. She also was instrumental in helping her son get started in his motel business. Carrie loved to fish, to sew and quilt, and travel with Tsali Manor seniors, she also enjoying working in her church. For the last years of her life Carrie was a resident at Tsali Care Nursing Home where the staff added so much to her life and she loved them dearly. At the time of her death, Carrie was the oldest member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. 

Carrie is preceded in death by her husband, Winfield Nye Robinson, who died in action during World War II; brothers, Ernest Sneed, Pat Sneed and Vernon “Sunny” Sneed; sisters, Pokie Sneed, Claudia Sneed, Marie Maney and Winifred “Hooter” Tiger; grand-daughter Oosti Robinson Sneed.

Carrie is survived by her son Nathan Robinson and wife Ginger; grandson Shawn Robinson and wife Chris; grandchildren, Jamey Queen, Joely Queen, McKenna Sneed, Maddox Sneed and Takoda Robinson; sisters, Virgina Dixon and Priscilla Cooper. Carrie also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her.

The funeral service was held on March 9 at the Cherokee Baptist Church with burial following at the Cam Sneed Cemetery.  Pastor Percy Cunningham, Pastor James “Bo” Parris and Ray Kinsland officiated. In lieu of flowers donations or gift can be made to Tsali Care Employee Appreciation Fund, 55 Echota Church Rd., Cherokee, NC 28719.

Emily Wolfe Smith – obituary

Emily Wolfe Smith, 70, of the Big Cove Community passed away on March 16, 2014 at Mission Hospital following a brief illness.  Emily is the daughter of the late William Wallace Wolfe and Mary Ann Tooni Wolfe.

Emily is preceded in death by her husband, Levi Smith; two sisters, Regina Wolfe and Frances Wolfe.

Emily is survived by her children, JoAnn Blaylock, Jack Hamilton (both of Cherokee) and Erna Marie Hall and husband B.J. of Tampa, Fla.; sisters, Velma Jane Taylor, Geraldine Walkingstick, Hazel Howell, Penny Rosillio-Perez and Donna Sue Wolfe, all of Cherokee; one brother, Bill Wolfe of Georgia; grandchildren, Kaitlin Blaylock of Cherokee, Matthew Brock of Tampa, Fla., Ryan Brock of Tampa, Fla. and Emily Brock of San Jose, Cali..

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18 from 6-8pm at Long House Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 19 at 2pm at the Smith Family Cemetery located in the Big Cove Community. Pastor Red Bradley will officiate.

Shon Davis George – obituary

Shon Davis George, 59, of Cherokee passed away on March 21, 2014 at Mission Hospital following a brief illness. Shon is the son of the late Joseph George and Edith Crowe George.

Shon is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Hornbuckle; brother, Simon George and grandson James Payton Lespier.

Shon is survived by two children, Shon Kevin George and Shonica Raylene George, both of the home; brothers, Denny Crowe, Albert George, Herbert George and JC George; grandchildren, Alijah George, Ajaidyn George and E-yan Owle; and special friend Lou Bowman.

A visitation was held on Sunday, March 23 at Old Antioch Church. Shon will remain at the church until hour service at 2pm on Monday, March 24. Burial will follow at the George Family Cemetery with friends and family acting as Pall Bearers. Pastor Denny Crowe and Pastor Jimbo Sneed will officiate.

Emaline Bird Kalonaheskie – obituary

Emaline Bird Kalonaheskie, 60, of Cherokee passed away on March 27, 2014 surrounded by family at the Cherokee Indian Hospital following an extended illness. Emaline is the daughter of the late William Bird and Leona Jumper. Emaline retired from Cherokee Central Schools after 40 years of service. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Emaline is preceded in death by one son, Jeremy Kalonaheskie; three brothers, Bobert Bird, Nicodemus Bird and Sam Jumper; and two sisters, Racheal Lance and Elnora Pheasant.

Emaline is survived by her husband Charles Kalonaheskie; two children, Jesse Kalonaheskie and Amy Kalonaheskie; three sisters, Stacy Rogers, Thelma Bird and Rebecca Paz-Chalacha; and her best friend/sister, Patricia Tramper.

A visiation will be held on Friday, March 28 at Rocksprings Baptist Church from 4pm-12am. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 29,2014 at Rocksprings Baptist Church at 11am. Burial will follow at the Long Family Cemetery (Long Branch Rd.) with family members acting as Pall Bearers. Pastor Greg Morgan, Pastor James “Bo” Parris and Pastor George Polecat will officiate. Mamie Lois (Rogers) Gwaltney Parrish – obituary

Mamie Lois (Rogers) Gwaltney Parrish, 87, of the Cherokee community, passed away unexpectedly at the Mission Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville on Monday, March 31, 2014.

Lois Parrish 001She was the daughter of the late Oscar Rogers and Edna (Warren) Rogers of the Vengeance Creek community of Marble.  Lois was the widow of Albin Gwaltney (1984) and also Robert Parrish (2003), each of eastern Virginia.  She was a member of the Cherokee Baptist Church and had worked as an accountant for the Pepsi Company.  Although Lois is a native of the Cherokee community and lived her final days among family in Cherokee, she spent a better part of her life in Virginia and leaves behind family there as well.

She is survived by her children,  William Douglas Gwaltney of Ashland, Ky., Sandra Wilson and husband Grady of Conway, SC, and Albin Rex Gwaltney of Cherokee; one brother, Harold Rogers; two sisters, Elise Kimsey and Ruth Garrett; chosen sister – Katie Peeler; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Lois is also preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Rogers and Charles Rogers; sisters, Alice Rogers and Shirley Arch and one special friend – Angie Brock.

A funeral service is planned for Thursday, April 3 in the Chapel of Long House Funeral Home in Cherokee at 2pm with the Rev. Percy Cunningham officiating.  Lois will be placed in the chapel one hour ahead of the service at 1pm for a short viewing.  An immediate burial will follow the service in Swain Memorial Park in Bryson City.  Pall bearers will include the grandsons Steven Voyles, Jamie Paugh and others that reach the service.

Mary Ann Widenhouse – obituary

Mary Ann Widenhouse, 80, a native of Cherokee died peacefully at her home on April 5, 2014. The daughter of Wayne and Nell Tahquette, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank and Howard. She is survived by her sister, Peggy. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ernest, her daughter, Marian, her son, Ernie, four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and four great grandchildren with another on the way.

A three-time breast cancer survivor over a period of 25 years, Mary Ann lived virtually all of those years with zest and vitality, Thanks to those who support the sciences and those who provided her with kind and competent health care.

Mary Ann received her bachelor of arts degree with honors from Western Carolina University, did graduate work at Duke University, where she met her husband, and earned a master of arts degree from John Hopkins University.

She taught and developed curriculum in the Baltimore City Schools for 14 years, returned to Cherokee where she became Head of the History Department at Cherokee High School, the Principal of the Cherokee Elementary School, and then Superintendent of the Cherokee Schools. She concluded her professional career by working in the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C. as Assistant Superintendent of Indian Education.

A memorial service for Mary Ann Widenhouse will be held on Friday, April 11 at 5pm at the Crisp Funeral Home Chapel in Bryson City.

Lynda D. Armachain – obituary

Lynda D. Armachain, born April 26, 1949 in Lenoir, passed away on March 14, 2014 in Orlando, Fla.   She was a resident of Altamonte Springs, Fla. and owned and operated Victoria Belvederes Beauty Salon in College Park.

Faithful to her religion until the end, she is survived by her Husband Steven J. She is preceded in death by father William Davis Armachain, paternal grandparents Louis Armachain and Dora Hornbuckle Armachain, and maternal grandparents Grover Enloe and Delia Lambert Powell.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Tow String Cemetery in Cherokee at a later date.

Warner Bradley – obituary

Warner Bradley, 79, of Whittier, passed away Monday afternoon, April 7, 2014 at Tsali Care Center in Cherokee. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Lessie Bradley.

img823Warner was a veteran of the US Marine Corp, a proud Shriner (Mason), and served on the board of Jackson County DSS. Warner was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qualla Fire Department. He was a member of The Old Timer’s Model A Car Club as well as the President of the Campground Cemetery Board. He was a lifelong businessman and auctioneer and was most proud of his community and loved his family and neighbors.

His is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Owle Bradley; three daughters, Lisa Moore and husband Kent of Whittier, Angie Bradley of Cherokee, and Beth Greene and husband Duke of Whittier; five grandchildren, Michael Moore, Matthew Moore, Emily Wegenka, Corey Greene and Bradley Greene as well as three great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 2pm on Thursday, April 10 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Mike Moore officiating. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 9 from 5-8pm at Appalachian Funeral Services. Military graveside rites will be held by Steve Youngdeer,  American Legion Post 143 at Campground Cemetery in Whittier. Honorary pall bearers will be drivers of antique cars.

Harold Belton “Rock” Morgan Jr. – obituary

Harold Belton “Rock” Morgan Jr., 83, of the Cherokee community passed away at his home on Old Mission Rd. on April 12, 2014.  Although a native son of Sylva, born on July 14, 1930, Harold spent the better part of his life with his wife and family in the Cherokee area. 

Harold was the son of the late Harold Belton Morgan Sr. and Edith (Jarrett) Whittworth Morgan of the Sylva community.  He was a US Army veteran and served in the Korean War.  Harold loved to read passing the time and he loved trains.  He even worked for Southern Railroads in his past; however, he was self-employed most of his life.

Harold leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years Mrs. Rachel George Morgan; son, Bunky Morgan of Cherokee; two brothers, Griffith Morgan of Sylva, and Larry Morgan of Arden;  two loved grandchildren, Kyle and Dylan Morgan; and one loved great-grand child, Brooklyn Morgan.

Louise Ammons – obituary

Louise Ammons, 51, of Cherokee passed away on April 12, 2014 at Tsali Care Center following an extended illness. Louise is the daughter of the late Jack D. Ammons and Geneva Toineeta Ammons.

Louise is preceded in death by brothers, Clarence Toineeta and Burnette George Ammons.

Louise is survived by children, Earl Ammons, Justin Ammons, Tsali Ammons and Bobby Jo Cucumber; brothers, James ‘Bone’ Toineeta and Willard Ammons; sisters, Hazel Ammons Jumper and husband Hoss, Rena Cooper and husband Cole and Lisa Cucumber; grandchild, Riley Postoak; special friend, Faye Crowe; Chase Crowe and Bobby Crowe.

A visitation was held on Sunday, April 13 at the Church of God.  She remained at the church until hour of service on Monday, April 14. Burial followed at the Toineeta Family Cemetery. Pall Bearers included: Chester Crowe, Bobby Jo Cucumber, Bobby Crowe, Hoss Jumper, Tony Johnson and JK Hornbuckle. Pastor Charles Griffin and Greg Morgan officiated.

Long House Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
