Jeremiah Littlejohn Jr. – obituary

Jeremiah Littlejohn Jr., 43, of 27 Tsali Crossing Rd. in the Wolftown Community of Cherokee, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016.

Jerry was the son of the late Jeremiah “Hank” Littlejohn and Deborah Ann (Owle) Littlejohn of Cherokee.  He was the loving husband and life-long companion to his wife, Beth (McCoy) Littlejohn of the home.  He was a good son, brother, uncle, father and husband and was loved by his friends and family.  Jerry made his way mostly in the construction industry building homes.  It was noted that he was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. He will be missed by those that knew him.

Along with his mother and wife, Jerry is survived by children, Tsa-li-di Sequoyah of Lawrence, Kan., Seth Littlejohn, Elijah Littlejohn and Isaiah Littlejohn, all of Cherokee, and Kaileeana “Unganasti” Littlejohn of the home; brothers, Mark Littlejohn, Duck Lossiah, Joshua Littlejohn; sister, Charity Littlejohn; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Jeremiah will be placed at the Cherokee Church of God on Tuesday, Nov. 1 for a visitation starting at 5pm for the public.  His body will remain at the church till the hour of service.  The service is set to start at 2pm on Wednesday, Nov. 2.  Ret. Pastor Donald Bates will officiate the services.  Jeremiah will be buried immediately following the funeral service in the Toineeta Family Cemetery at the Church of Christ.  Pall Bearers will be Tim Smith, Josiah Lossiah, Justice Littlejohn, Brandon Burgess, John Marmon, and Blaine Wolfe. Honorary Pall Bearers include Eddie Bird, Chad George and Buford Smith.

Margie Crisp Howard – obituary

Margie Crisp Howard, 57, of the Birdtown Community, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016. A native of Cherokee, she was the daughter of Katherine Murphy Crisp of Cherokee and the late Theron Crisp.

She was a member of Road to Calvary Church in Florida and Bethabara Baptist Church in Cherokee. She was an active Youth Group Leader at Road to Calvary for 20 years. She helped with many fundraisers for children. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friends.

 

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Floyd Howard; one daughter, Catherine Faith Cline of Cherokee; two sons, Theron Wesley Parker of West Virginia, and Duane Jahu Parker of Florida; four grandkids, Jordan Parker of Florida, Devin Parker of Florida, Theron Parker of West Virginia, and Averee Parker of West Virginia; two sisters, Gail DeHart of Cherokee, and Charlene Stiles of Cherokee; one brother, June Bug Crisp of Asheville, and several nieces and nephews, and she was loved by all.

 

Funeral Services will be held 11am on Friday, Nov. 4 at Bethabara Baptist Church. Rev. Tommy Anderson will officiate with burial in Birdtown Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 5-11pm on Thursday at the Church.

 

Pallbearer will be Ryan DeHart, Curtis Arneach, Jefferson Arneach, Mike Rich, Travis Scruggs, Thomas Wolfe, Aaron Williams, and Tevin Smoker.  

Steve Harrison Smith – obituary

obit-steve-smith Steve Harrison Smith, age 68, of Alcoa, Tenn., passed from this life on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016.  Steve was born in Maryville, Tenn. on April 18, 1948.  He was preceded in death by parents, Henry Harrison Smith Jr. and Ruth Arzella Sauls Smith.

Steve, an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, was passionate about his family genealogy.  He was able to share with family his research of their Cherokee roots all the way to Cherokee County, NC and the Qualla Boundary.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army after early years attending Everett High School and the University of Tennessee.  He is survived by his sons, Joppa Smith and Seth Smith of Grand Junction, Colo.; sisters, Carma Budd of Alcoa, Tenn., Donna Stephens (Don) of Jefferson City, Mo., Bobbie Bradley of Alcoa, Tenn., and Kay Swicegood (Tom) of Louisville, Tenn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their children.  Special friends include Mike Ross, Raphael Trenpo and Darrell Millsaps.

Family and friends assembled for graveside services and interment on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Steve’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at http://www.jdrf.org/donate/ or Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust at http://cst.dav.org/donate/.

Rose Littlejohn – obituary

Rose Littlejohn, 63, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016.  A native of Cherokee, she was the daughter of the late Edison and Ester Reed Littlejohn.  She was preceded in death by Cheslea, Annlizza, Lee Boy, and her great nephew, Shane.

She is survived by her sisters, Margret Reed and her children, Katie, Leroy, and Mary; Mollie Littlejohn and her children, Edison, Blue Jay, and Duke; Frances J. Littlejohn and her children, Chip and Chuch; Evelyn Locust and husband James and their children, Chris, James Jr., Heather, and Robin; Brenda Littlejohn and her children, Allen and Dewayne; and Doris Reed and her children, Andy, Lechay, Kayla, and Joseph.

She is also survived by her extended family, her caregivers, Melissa and Chuck Irwin; Vickie Maxwell who was extremely close to Rose; Miranda Bryson, Kim Hall, Sara Cabe, Lynette Crisp, Teresa Fish, Aisha Bryant, and Amanda Hammonds.

Pallbearers will be Chip, Chuck, Duke, Blue Jay, and Justin and Stanley Dill.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday at the Cherokee Wesleyan Church.  Rev. Jimbo Sneed will officiate.  The body will be taken to the church at 5pm on Friday by Crisp Funeral Home to await the hour of service.

Eunice Gouge Gass – obituary

Eunice Gouge Gass, 82, of Whittier, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 2. A longtime resident of Whittier, she was the daughter of the late Luman and Mae Cole Gouge and wife of the late Buddy Gass. A Christian woman, she was a faithful member of Whittier Baptist Church. She worked in Swain County and Cherokee most of her life.

 

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dan and Willis Gouge.

 

She is survived by two daughters, Reba Elders of Whittier, Donna Cook and husband Bobby of Sylva; grandson, Brandon Elders and wife Jill of Sylva; two great grandchildren, Brett and Jake Elders; two brothers, Lewis and Jack Gouge; her sister, Audrey Peters and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, Nov. 5 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Terry Taylor and Shane Silvers will officiate with burial in the Thomas Memorial Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 11am to 1pm Saturday at the funeral home.

James “JD” Raby – obituary

JD is survived by his wife, Linda S. Raby; one daughter, Michelle Raby (Shane Davis); one son, James A. Raby and wife Paislee; grandchildren, Jacob George, Michael George, Jordan Davis, Dante Davis, Adrian Davis, Cecelia Davis, Davan Fourkiller Raby, Malakai Fourkiller Raby, Maria Fourkiller Raby, Izzy Fourkiller Raby, Daisee Fourkiller Raby, Austin Fourkiller Raby, and Lloyd Mitchell; great grandchildren, Evalynn George and Otis George; brothers, Donald, Roger, Jerry, and Robert Raby; sisters, Lottie Beck, Loraine Beck, Opal Johnson, Linda Hughes, Ruth Ammons, Janie Waldroup, and Brenda Jones; and special friends, J.L. Satterfield and Tom Parker.

In addition to his parents, JD was preceded in death by brothers, John, Thomas “Tink”, and Buford Raby.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 12-2 pm at the Cherokee Bible Church with funeral services to follow at 2pm.  Pastors Randy Miller and Eddie Stillwell will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Scott Raby, Wes Raby, Jeff Raby, Rodney Raby, Jimmy Ammons, and Keith Ammons.

 

Skye Lorenzo Owl – obituary

He was born Dec. 2, 1988 in Jackson County to the late Alfred “Bill” William Owl and Marguerita Hornbuckle Owl.

In addition to his mother, Marguerita, Skye is survived by his son, Jordon Davonn Owl; mother of Jordon Davonn Owl, Tiana Moore; sister, Tonya Owl; brothers, Star Sampson and A.J. Owl; two Aunts, Joyce Bowman and Debbie Littlejohn; four uncles, Taylor Bridges, Ronnie Hornbuckle, David Youngbird, and Glenn Owl; a special great aunt, Ethel Owl; also survived by Stormi Welch Hornbuckle whom he thought of as a sister and her children, Sladen, Gabriel, and Kilandra Hornbuckle and Lula and Everleigh Jones.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 7-9pm at Long House Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 11am at the Goings Cemetery.  Pastors Dan Conseen and James “Bo” Parris will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Haga Cruz, Hunter Smith, David Coulter, Cage Jones, Daniel Hornbuckle, Barney Youngdeer, Christopher “Frodo” Manning, and Ben Swimmer.

Evangeline “Vangie” Arch Laney – obituary

evangeline-laneyEvangeline “Vangie” Arch Laney, 77, of Cherokee passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016.

She was born March 1, 1939 in Cherokee to the late Horace Arch and Sara Reed Arch.

Vangie is survived by one daughter, Vanessa Dawn Nolin Garcia, of Riverside, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her baby, Sugar Arch; her babies, great great niece and nephew Araceli and Zacchaeus Arch; niece and nephew, Angel and John Clayton; great nieces Tasha and Angelique; great nephew, Clayton Arch; and her special best friend, Patricia Crockett.

In addition to her parents, Vangie was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Laney; brothers, Bud, Fred, Brother, Roger, Clayton, and Treannie Arch; and two sisters, Sis and Annabelle.

She loved her special little dog, Blackberry.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the Cherokee Wesleyan Church.  Pastors Patricia Crockett and Ben Reed officiated.  Burial followed at the Oocumma Cemetery on Blue Wing.  Honorary Pallbearer was Zacchaeus Arch.  Pallbearers were her nephews, John Clayton, Earl Martin, Troy Arch, Craig Arch, Clayton Arch, and Buster Arch.

Betty Jean Smoker Jackson

betty-smoker-jacksonBetty Jean Smoker Jackson, 75, of the Jackson Branch Community in Robbinsville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2016 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

A native of Graham County, she was the daughter of the late Amanda Smoker.  In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Jackson in 1996, her granddaughter, Sydney Jackson, and her son in law, Leland Welch.

Betty was retired from the Graham County School System after working there for many years.

She is survived by her son, Clarence Jackson Jr. and his wife Maureen of Robbinsville; her daughters and sons in law, Jeanie Marie Welch of Robbinsville, Mary and Dennis Pilkington of Fontana Dam, Wanda and Larry Blythe of Robbinsville, Donna Jackson and Ansley Jackson of Robbinsville, and Michelle and Eddie Stamper of Cherokee.  Her grandchildren are Stephanie Bridges, Shelby Jackson, Danielle Jones, Holly Swimmer, Kelly Jackson, Stuart Jackson, Blake Powers, Blaze Powers, Sam Blythe, Josh Taylor, Laura Blythe, Lloyd Blythe, Driver Blythe, Ansley Jackson, and Cain Stamper.  She has 19 great grandchildren, Tayen Bridges, Tylie Bridges, Tacey Bridges, Tavok Bridges, Amiyah Collins, JaeLee Jackson, Natalie Swimmer, Finnley Swimmer, Hunter Jones, Rachel Blythe, Nicki Blythe, Maiya Blythe, Samantha Blythe, Nate Crowe, Lily Ramos, Memphis Taylor, Finley Taylor, Emily Blankenship, and Logan Blankenship.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Little Snowbird Baptist Church.  The Reverends Jim Teasdale and Bo Parris officiated.  Burial followed at the Jackson Family Cemetery.

“Butch” Wilson Grover Bottorf – obituary

“Butch” Wilson Grover Bottorf, 73, of Whittier, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Nancy Jane Foust Bottorf, on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 at his residence. A native of Pennsylvania and Florida and longtime resident of Jackson County, he was the son of the late George Van and Velma Rote Bottorf. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Julia Root; brother, Harold Bottorf; great grandson, Marvin Wilson Cochran; and several nieces and nephews; and many loved ones who have gone before.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Whittier United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman that enjoyed lake fishing with his brother, Edgar Van Bottorf.

He is survived by three daughters, Marlene Ann Bottorf, Gena Maria Bottorf, Lisa Ann Bottorf Murphy and husband Lawrence Daniel Murphy; two grandsons, Misael Wilson and Dillan Murphy; two granddaughters, Diana Wilson and Ambria Leonard; two great grandsons, Aiden Morris and Branson Morris; one great granddaughter, Catelin Wilson; one brother, Edgar Van Bottorf; one sister, Honey Ileen Meggison; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, Nov. 14 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Randy Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Swain Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Bryson City VFW post number 9281.

Pallbearers will be Dillan, Misael, Casey, Jason, Cody and Hunter.

 

Phyllis Smith Sequoyah – obituary

Phyllis Smith Sequoyah, 81, of the Big Cove Community, left this world of sickness and pain on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016.  She was surrounded by many family members and friends.  Until her illness, Phyllis was very active in her community and enjoyed spending time sewing, making crafts, and going to water aerobics.  She had many friends at all of these activities.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Stella Sneed Smith; three brothers, Oscar, Phillip, and Pat Smith; two sisters, Georgia Washington and Nellie Littlejohn; one daughter, Barbara Sequoyah; and one great grandson, Kollin Lane Tramper.

Phyllis is survived by four daughters, Patricia Tramper, Annette Sequoyah, Tracy Rivers, and Loretta Sequoyah; one sister, Susie Chastain of Cherokee; and one brother, John Wilbur Smith Sr. of Cherokee.  She had 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, she has requested that donations be made to Big Cove Missionary Baptist Church in care of James “Bo” Parris and Betty’s Place, Cherokee Cancer Support Group at P.O. Box 2220, Cherokee, NC  28719.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Dec. 3 from 1-4pm at the Big Cove Recreation Center.  All family and friends are invited.  Bring your favorite covered dish.

Sandra Gail Roland – obituary

roland-folder-picSandra Gail Roland, 61, of Waynesville, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Kelly and Marie Roland. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill (Willi) Roland; two sons, Randy Fowler and Chris Mintz; and a grandson, Dillon Bernhisel.

She is survived by her children, Kelly West and husband Angelo of Cherokee, David Hedrick and wife Cindy of Madison County, and Ellen Williams and husband Eric of Colorado; brothers and sisters, Charlene Mull and husband Carl, Pamela Singleton and husband Tommy, Linda Norene Sutton, Neal Roland and wife Linda, and James Roland and wife Clara; grandchildren, Amelia Fowler, Monique Sanchez, Victoria Fowler, Whitney Santoyo, Nicole West, Brandon Hedrick, Kevin Hedrick, Caitlyn Mintz and Dillion Bird; and great grandchildren, Tehya Lincoln, Persephone Lincoln, and Jayce West.

Funeral Services will be held 2pm on Friday, Nov. 25 in Crisp Funeral Home Chapel. Revs. Neal Roland and Roger Roland will officiate with burial in Birdtown Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12-2pm Friday at the Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be David Hedrick, Kevin Hedrick, Brandon Hedrick, Jose Santoyo, Taka Lincoln, Eric Williams, and Angelo West.

 

Bernadine Hicks George – obituary

Bernadine Hicks George, 72, of Cherokee, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016.  She was born March 14, 1944 to the late Oscar Hicks and Rachel L. Hicks.

She was a pottery maker.

Bernadine is survived by two daughters, Denise George (Manuel Armes) and Terri Jo George (Bobby); three grandchildren, Camille Davis, Deanna Beck (Daniel Taylor), and Amber Beck (Jace Girty), all of Cherokee; four great grandchildren, Kaydence Davis, Xavion Davis, Benjamin Davis, and Aaliyah (Ali) Davis; brothers, Arthur (Art) Hicks, Steve Hicks, Oscar (Coss) Hicks Jr., Butch Long, and Johnny Hicks; and one sister, Charlotte Saunooke.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, Bernadine was preceded in death by one brother, William “Bill” Hicks; two sisters, Bernadette Taylor and Treva F. Reed.

Services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at Rock Springs Baptist Church.  Pastor Greg Morgan officiated.  Burial was at the Hicks Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Michell Hicks, Dewayne Hicks, David Hicks, Kenny Taylor, Kenny Dawkins, Mark Hicks, Zach Hicks, Jordan Hicks, and Billy Jack Hicks.

 

John Daniel Larch – obituary

John Daniel Larch, 64, of the Wolfetown community, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at his residence. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of the late John Roberts and Catherine Lee Arch Larch and husband of the late Lou Ella Lossiah Larch. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran “Semper Fi”.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his special aunt, Evangeline Laney.

He is survived by his children, Bo Lossiah and wife Anita of Cherokee, Mistie Rae Scott and husband Walter of Gaylord, Mich., Shannon Johnson of Gaylord, Mich., Mindy Wright and husband Will of Cherokee, Joni Larch and husband Cameron Locust of Cherokee; special daughter, Tracy Fitzmaurice of Whittier; grandchildren, Dylon, Jonah, Carmen, Kayla, Drew, Gleason, Laura, Kelvin, Nathaniel, Daniel, Lilyan, Liam, Logan, Dani, Devin and Tater; brothers, Dave, Allen and Rick Larch all of Cherokee; and his special nephews, Chris Larch and Treannie.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, Nov. 28 at Wrights Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Eddie Sherrill and Rev. Austin Frady will officiate with military services conducted by the Steve Youngdeer American Legion Post #143.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 12 am Sunday at the church.

Dylan, Jonah, Liam, Logan, Drew, Devin and Chris Larch will serve as pallbearers.

Nancy Jane (Blackfox) Bigmeat – obituary

obit-nancy-blackfox-bigmeat-2Nancy Jane (Blackfox) Bigmeat, 70, of the Wolftown Community in Cherokee, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016 at the Cherokee Indian Hospital.  Her family was by her side.

Nancy was the daughter of the late Ross Blackfox and Amanda Littlejohn Blackfox.  She was a graduate of Chilocco Indian School of Chilcocco, Okla.  Nancy retired from the Tribe having worked at the Tsali Manor for 20 years and the Cherokee Indian Hospital in the decades passed.  She was an avid Bingo player who loved the game and was a foster mother of sorts to many. She will be missed by those that knew and loved her.

Nancy is survived by her children, Jeff Blackfox, Noel “Coon” Bigmeat, John Bigmeat, Wesley Wildcat, Elizabeth “Lish” Oocumma, Alexa Armachain and Cain Oocumma; grandchildren, Kristan Blackfox, Cassandra Blackfox, Corneila Rattler, Kyle Bigmeat and Keith Bigmeat; great grandchildren,  Dylan Wachacha, Ethan Armachain; and two special grandchildren, Shaelynn Inoli Postoak and Hayven Inoli  Johnson. Also surviving are sister, Sarah Blackfox Wildcat, and brother, Wiggins Blackfox; and one aunt, Sallie Reed.

Along with her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by husband, Robert Bigmeat; children, Christine Lynn Bigmeat, Carrie Leigh Bigmeat, Justin Blackfox, and Linda Armachain; and brothers, Wesley Blackfox, and Adam Blackfox.

Funeral services were held at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Cherokee on Saturday, Nov. 26 with Bros. Dan Conseen and Merritt Youngdeer officiating.  Burial was in the Inoli Cemetery just beyond brother Wiggin Blackfox’s homeplace along Tsali Inoli Road by the Church.  Pallbearers were among the friends of the family.

Mary Owl Melquist – obituary

obit-melquist-portrait-1Mary Owl Melquist, an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, was born on March 17, 1936 and died in Bellingham, Wash. on Oct. 31, 2016.  She was the daughter of the late Frell and Gladys Owl, and beloved sister of Frela Owl Beck of Cherokee.

Mary had many talents.  She graduated from the University of Idaho with a bachelor’s of science degree in home economics and music and worked as a high school teacher.  Later, she became an RN and worked 25 years as a recovery room nurse and went on nine medical missions.  She had the gift of and passion for music, especially piano.  She started as an accompanist at age 9 and was involved with music her entire life.  She had a special way of encouraging people to use their talents for the enjoyment of all and to the glory of God.

In 1958, she married Dean Melquist.  They had two children, Ben and Tiana, and lived in Colorado for 52 years before moving to Bellingham, Wash. so that Dean could receive dementia care and to be near their daughter.  Dean died in 2014.

Mary is survived by Ben (Judy) Melquist, Tiana (Norman) and their daughter, Ellie Stolzoff, sister Frela (George) Beck, nephew Emil (Annalise) Beck, niece Amy (Gene) Thompson and their sons Cliff and Austin.

Dennis James Rattler Sr. – obituary

Dennis James Rattler Sr., 57, of Cherokee passed away Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016.  He was born May 19, 1959 in Swain County to the late Mac Rattler and Cornelia Lossiah Rattler.

Dennis was a great friend to many.  He loved to fish and watch sports on television.  He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.  He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Cherokee.

Dennis is survived by the mother of his children, Sandra Foster; three children, Dennis James Rattler Jr. of Beckley, West Virginia, Sandra Denise Rattler of Winston Salem, and Brandy Michelle Savage of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Desiree Rattler, Dillon Rattler, Ariel Rattler, Kaitlyn Rattler, Shawn Warner, Ciara Warner, Stuart Savage, Joseph Savage, and Wade Savage; and special friends, Debi Ramirez, Mable Frizzell, and Albert Sluder.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by three sisters, Woody Rattler, Tater Rattler, and Esther Roach.

No services are planned.

obit-tony-standingdeer-2Tony Howard “Fatboy” Standingdeer, 37, of Cherokee, was called to his Heavenly home Friday, Dec. 2, 2016. Tony is the son of Carl “Toad” Standingdeer and Pam and David Cope.  He was born Dec. 6, 1978 in Cherokee.

Tony was a hardworking man.  He was proficient at carpentry work and hanging drywall. He enjoyed the outdoors.  Some of his favorite activities were fishing, camping, and ginseng digging. He was very generous and had no need for airs and graces.  What you saw was what you got, and what you got was a big warm smile, genuine and full of love.

In addition to his parents, Tony is survived by his wife, Shena Dale Standingdeer; three children, Tyra Celeste Standingdeer, Dominique Paige Locust, and a son Tony held very close to his heart Briar Daniel Standingdeer; two grandchildren, Camden Ty Standingdeer and Draelyn Harper Saunooke; three stepchildren, Chance and Dason Bryant, and Madison Backwater; one brother, Jared Standingdeer; one sister, Virginia “Beet” Standingdeer; two nieces, Katlin Roberts and McKinsey Cochran, and two aunts, dear and loving Joan Standingdeer, and Mary Jackson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Long House Funeral Home from 6-8 pm.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 11am at Long House Funeral Home with Pastor Foreman Bradley officiating.  Burial will follow at the Virginia Standingdeer Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Roy Bradley, Sam Toineeta, Issac “Ike” Long, Mike “Peckerhead” Oocumma, Charles “Charlie” Burgess, June Wolfe, and Neil Owle.

 

Jerry “Bimbo” Harlan Long – obituary

obit-jerry-long-2Jerry “Bimbo” Harlan Long, 62, of Cherokee, passed away Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 in Haywood County.  He was born Jan. 3, 1954 in Cherokee to the late Katherine Long Jumper.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Owle Long; two children, Jamir Mobley and Jaazaniah Owle; three brothers, Isaac Long and Floyd Long of Cherokee and Harold Long of Murphy; two sisters, Carolyn Mintz of Cherokee and Brenda Christoff of Shreveport, La.

In addition to his mother, Jerry was preceded in death by one brother, James Long; and one sister, Blanda Smith.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, Dec. 9 at the Drama Cemetery.  Richard Sneed will officiate.

Henrietta Irene Lambert – obituary

Henrietta Irene Lambert, 58, of the Birdtown community, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016. A native of Cherokee, she was the daughter of Patricia Sneed Lambert of Cherokee and the late Henry Ray Lambert.

 

She is survived by one daughter, Jasmine Raedean Lambert; two sons, Jesse Ren Lambert and wife Cory Danielle Lambert and their daughter, Jessilyn Arabella Tipton-Lambert, and Jason Lee Cole and wife Cori Debnam Cole and their children, Jadon Henry Cole, Stella James Cole and Samuel Holden Cole; brothers and sisters, Patricia Watkins, Deetra Huff, Patrick Lambert, Angela Gunter and Edwina Lambert all of Cherokee.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Cherokee Baptist Church of which she was a member. Rev. Percy Cunningham will officiate with burial in the Henry Lambert Cemetery.

 

Henrietta will be taken to the church at 5pm Friday by Crisp Funeral Home to await the hour of service.
